Pixi Super thin 1x4 LED flat Panel

Recently we installed a few ultra thin Pixi 1x4 LED Flat Panels in a garage/workshop. The homeowner wanted more light without the hassle of having to replace ballasts and bulbs, so after deciding on a specific style a decision was made to go with the Pixi 1x4 LED fixtures. They were efficient, virtually maintenance free and would create all the light the homeowner needed.

The homeowner wanted a balanced amount of light she was planning on using the space to park her cars but also wanted to add storage cabinets and have a designated shop area that her and her husband could use for their ever growing projects. Once we reviewed the final garage layout and design we were ready to run the wire. To get the amount of light she was looking for we had to install four 1x4 LED fixtures.

The first obstacle of the install was to decide on how to mount the fixtures, the manufacturer offered a bracket option but it had to be purchased separately so we decided to mount the fixture using the tabs on each corner. Which moves me to my next obstacle; each fixture is beautifully finished with a nice shiny white coat of paint. This very same paint was also applied to the mounting tabs on the back and so made it that much more difficult to access the tabs. We ended up having to score the outline of the tab and then gently sliding underneath to lift the mounting tab upward; it wasn't too much of a problem just a little annoying having to repeat the process sixteen times. Moving on, the next big obstacle was having to deal with installing the wires, since the fixture was approximately a half an inch thick that meant the wire termination channel was going to be just as tight.

For installation, a junction box behind the fixture was recommended in order to bring the wire into the termination point of the fixture, however since the termination point was so close to the edge of the fixture it would of been difficult to hide the junction box. So to wire these fixtures and have them close properly a single run per fixture had to be done. Once the wire runs were complete they were ready to be wired in. For the wire installation, it was necessary to use plastic push-in connectors because the fixtures wiring channel was too small for metal connectors, we didn't want to run the risk of pressing down on the wires and damaging the insulation.

Once we terminated the wires and closed up the fixtures it was time to mount them to the finished ceiling. After properly securing the fixtures to the ceiling we tested our work, the fixtures worked perfectly, it did help that we tested each LED fixture before hanging them. The homeowner was extremely satisfied with the amount of light output each fixture provided, of course proper placement of the fixtures also played an important part. Still the garage was evenly lit, key work spaces and storage areas were perfectly balanced and the switching was exactly as requested.

Working with different products always takes some getting used to but once its done you see where the adjustments need to be made and change it up on the next one. Overall we are pleased with the performance of these fixtures, the light output is bright while the low profile frame is just impressive. Til next time.
